Tania Reitz deserves your vote for the 2009 Callahan Award.
If the Callahan awards the player who best exemplifies extraordinary frisbee ability,
Tania routinely makes highlight-reel caliber plays. The things this kid can do on the field regularly leaves entire sidelines of spectators with their jaws on the ground. I have played with her for three years, and I'm still amazed by what she can do. She can probably out-run and out-jump anyone you decide to put on her. Her vert is absolutely ridiculous, and you wouldn't believe her hang time. She's got great hands, and usually, if she can touch the disc, she can catch it. Tania almost always has the dirtiest jersey on the field. At Pres Day, her brand new white jersey and shorts were brown within the first five minutes. Watching this kid on D is sick. Skys, run through D's, layout D's, she's got 'em all in her bag of tricks. She'll layout over your shoulder, she'll T-Bag you as you both go up for the disc, and she'll sprint by and D you as you're still standing there thinking you're about to catch the disc. The kid can bring it on both sides of the disc.
However, some of my favorite Tania moments are those that might not necessarily be seen in highlight reels. Tania had an injured shoulder last year, and despite having to be taken off the field at Texas Throwdown, she came back in the game and continually laid out on that shoulder. It was tough to watch, but she showed her team just how hard she was willing to work and just how much she wanted to win. The kid is a workhorse, and is just a great leader on our team. She does it by example. More than that, she's such a great team player. Tania makes play after play after play, but she is always the first to praise and encourage her teammates. If I were able to choose anyone in the country for my dream team, I would without a doubt always pick Tania first, and you're talking to one of the biggest WonderDread/White Lightning/Maddog/Kaela Jorgenson fans ever.
I think anyone who has matched up against Tania will tell you that she is an absolute class act. She doesn't make bad calls, and she doesn't argue when something is called on her. She just goes out and competes, fair and clean, and if she gets beat, she gets beat, and she'll probably be the first person to shake your hand afterward and tell you what a great play you made. She plays the game with a great deal of respect for her opponent, and is probably one of the funniest people to guard, what with her constant "Praise the Lord!"s and "Fuck my life!"s.
Not only is she an incredible player, she looks fantastic doing it. Have you seen that ass? Those calves? It's ridiculous. Good thing I put a ring on it (so back off, gold diggers!).
But seriously. I am willing to guarantee you that at least 7 out of every 10 people Tania has matched up against on the field will tell you that she is a phenomenal player, and a great person. Tania has the ability to put a team on her back and change a game, but you don't ever hear her bragging about how fantastic she is. She has a great deal of humility, and is the consummate team player. She loves this team, and this team loves her.
Tania Reitz for Callahan 2009.
You have until May 20th.
Do it to it.

I just wanted to take this time to give huge props to everyone on our team. You all astound me, 4srs. Aside from throwing flick bombs all day, Miss Foster (who deserved 1st Team All-Region, by the way. What the shit were you voters thinking?) has learned how to sky small nations of chumps and layout all in the same season. MurryKim worked her ass off to get back on the field, and now she's breaking marks and laying out all over the place. Clurr (bless her heart) throws hammers like regular people throw flicks, and will even throw hammer swing passes like it ain't no big thang. Peach has gotten some of the SICKEST layouts I've ever seen in my life this year. Fozz has been killing with her lefty throws, and she gets sky D's like it's her job. Alexis has also been getting sick layout grabs and sky goals on the daily. Margaret will be everywhere on the field and catch anything and then throw that famous high release for a score. Kimmy D might be Michael Jordan, with her 40 inch vert and her tongue out while she embarrasses your mark with a big flick. RACH will D you from the ground, then catch the score as she cackles away about it. Mader is always in the right place at the right time, catching swill just when you think you've overthrown someone. Yenny has been my favorite popper to throw to this year, with her ballsy ass throws through the cup. She'll also burn you deep, but that's only if you don't take her out and collapse her lungs, first. Then there are our incredible rookies, Risa, Sheehy, Noyle, and FOTY, who have all improved a ridiculous amount this season and are going to go to NATTIES in their first year.
Man, best team ever. Good thing I spend all my time with you.
