I just feel like calling it "bad circumstances" suggests that what Mr. Stapinski did wasn't wrong. Having your car break down on the wrong side of town, that's bad circumstances. But getting drunk to three times the legal limit, getting behind the wheel, knowing the driving conditions are bad, and driving home, knowing you've taken an oath as a police officer to protect lives? That's not a "bad circumstance". Police officer or not, that is unlawful, irresponsible, reckless, and wrong, and it needs to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. What he did wasn't a minor mistake or a temporary lapse in judgment. Getting drunk and getting behind the wheel are decisions that you make that carry heavy consequences. Point. Two. Two. Three.
